Morioka City

Morioka city is located 550km north of Tokyo (latitude. 39 degrees N, longitude 141 degrees E) and has a population of approximately 300,000. It is the central city of Iwate Prefecture. There is a Shinkansen (bullet train) from and to Tokyo and the other major cities of Japan. It takes only 2 hours 12 minutes from Tokyo and 39 minutes from Sendai.

The city has beautiful natural scenery. Three rivers cross the city and the famous Iwate Mountain is on the north side of the city. Morioka is an urban city but people can enjoy a quiet lifestyle. People in the city are kind and prices of consumer goods are reasonable. “Ease of Life Index “, a consumer survey conducted by Jiji Press every year, ranks Morioka as the most likable city to live in Japan.

Student Dormitories

MJLS dormitories are located in the center of the city. From the dormitories to the school, it takes not more than 20 minutes on foot or 10 minutes by bicycle. The dormitories are conveniently located with many shops and restaurants nearby. All rooms in the dormitories have a desk, shelves, a refrigerator, a rice cooker and a TV set. Most furniture and appliances are provided in the rooms. Students are asked to sleep on a futon which they need to buy upon their arrival in Morioka.

Almost all dormitory rooms are double occupancy rooms. However, a single occupancy room can be arranged upon request. The kitchen and bathrooms are for communal use, shared by residents of each hall. Rent varies depending upon the location of the dormitory. Below are examples of rent. The room rent normally includes utilities and internet which can be up to 8,000 yen per month.

Part-time Job

Since the foreign students of Morioka Information Business College can receive "College Student Visa", they can have part-time jobs up to 28 hours per week to the extent that it does not cause trouble with their studies.

Health Management

International students join the National Health Insurance program in case of emergency illness or injury and to help them lead a secure life. After joining the National Health Insurance, 70% of patients' medical fees are covered when receiving care at medical facilities. Patients are responsible for 30% of the medical fees. (The annual cost for medical insurance coverage is 18,000 yen)
